FAQ's

How do I sign up?
Choose a date to come in for an orientation in the drop-down menu above.  Or you can always just call us to register: 617-349-6794.

What is the time commitment?
Volunteers give one or two hours per week, for at least one semester. Many volunteers choose to work more hours.

When are volunteers needed?
All opportunities occur before, during or after the school day (between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, during the school year).

Who are the students?
Our public schools have a very diverse student body. Students served by CSV have requested help or have been referred by their teacher.

Can I help if I’ve never worked in a school?
Yes! You do not have to have prior experience as a tutor or teacher. We will work to match your talents with a need in the schools.

What about training?
Training begins as soon as you attend one of the informational orientation sessions. Ongoing support continues via training events throughout the year. Some special projects have monthly trainings as well.

When are the orientations?

Where do the CSV orientations take place?
Elementary and high school orientations take place in Room 2407, Cambridge Rindge & Latin School (CRLS).  Click here for directions.

What are your current needs?
For a list of specific volunteer needs, click here.  However, we also will work with you to use your talents, so please sign up for an orientation even if you aren't sure which role is a fit.  

Do I need to provide references or have a CORI check?
Yes. You can download the Elementary Reference Form and bring two copies with you to your orientation. Your references should be individuals who have known you for at least one year. Also, bring a government-issued photo ID (drivers license or passport) for a CORI (criminal record) check.
